I will vote BJP, fans need not follow: Rajnikant

Sunday, April 11 2004

RajinikantChennai: Ruling out any formal support to any alliance in Tamil Nadu for the coming Lok Sabha polls, Tamil superstar Rajnikant announced on Sunday (Apr 11, 2004) that he will personally vote for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led alliance in the State.

BJP alone has promised to interlink major national rivers to solve the drinking water problems, he said adding that the BJP led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) Government will come to power in the Centre after the polls.

Rajnikant said he would not compel his large number of fans to vote for any particular party and they were free to cast their ballots according to their choice.

"Please think deeply before casting your vote," he said while reading out a written statement in a crowded press conference today. He refused to answer any questions of the reporters and left the venue.

The first part of his statement dealt with the stand off between the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) and his fans associations right from the party protested against his film, BABA.

He dubbed the PMK founder, S Ramadoss, as the king of violence.

This Rajini's decision will indirectly benefit Jayalalitha's AIADMK, for AIADMK candidate is contesting from where Rajinikant franchise his vote in Chennai.
