Srikanth's attempt of portraying negative role flounders at the start itself. His much-hyped VARNAJALAM is very clichéd. Lackluster screenplay and direction, predictable narration and slow pace of the film make it unwatchable. Though Srikanth has done good job portraying the role of Daniel, which has gray shades, the role is ill conceived. The motive for he becoming villain-like is very contrived. Debutant director Nagulan Ponnusamy's amateurishness at handling linear story killed the film even more.

Sakthivel (Srikanth) enters police officer Devanathan's (Nassar) house by recommendation from a priest. He wins over everyone in the family including the police officer's son, daughter Anita (Kutty Radhika), brother (Thalaivasal Vijay), his wife and their children. But he has a plan of wrecking Devanathan's family. He sends Devanathan's son to a mental asylum and creates conflict between the brothers. Towards the climax, Devnathan's daughter Anita (Kutty Radhika) corners him and he then tells her father was responsible for the death of his would be Abhirami (Sada) and his family.

Srikanth as Danial has done good job. Sada and Kutty Radhika have nothing much to do. For Nasser it is umpteenth such role. Vidyasagar's music is passé. Karunas comedy doesn't gel with the story. A very predictable film done in routine manner.
