PUDUKOTTAILIRUNDHU SARAVANAN, A big bore
Film: PUDUKOTTAILIRUNDHU SARAVANAN Cast: Dhanush, Aparna, Karunaas and others Music: Yuvan Shanker Raja Produced by: Krishnakanth Screenplay, and directed by: Stanley Released on: Jan 16, 2004 Dhanush's fourth film, PUDUKOTTAILIRUNDHU SARAVANAN, which raised many expectations before the release, fails to attract. Though he has in good elements, the film's weak script makes the film a big bore. Tacky screenplay takes all the charm away from his role. A gorgeous newcomer, good music and action-packed stunt sequences are there but to sustain the mood, you need a good story or an interesting narration. The film falls in that area. Saravanan (Dhanush) moves to Singapore through an agent as a contract laborer from Pudukottai. His aim is to clear off all his father's debts. He gets the job of part-time labour there. But his dreams shattered when a Chinese burns his passport for picking up a fight with him. A bloody battle between them results in the latter's death. Fearing punishment and with no passport Dhanush is on the run. He comes across a rich man, who has some difficulty with local gangsters and hands over his niece (Aparna) to him. He promises Dhanush lakhs of money if he helps Aparna reach India. The rest is how Daunsh makes it by taking her through Malaysia, Thailand and Burma and Kolkata. During the passage they fall in love with each other. Dhanush expectedly has done good job. He does the dance and fight sequences with ease. The debutante Aparna looks sensuous and is a promising talent. Director Stanley seems to have depended too much on Dhanush. Yuvan Shankar's music is other praise worthy aspect of the film. All in all, a big bore.
