Peralagan
Cast: Surya (dual role), Jyothika (dual role), Vivek and others Music: Yuvan Shanker Raja Produced by: AVM Screenplay and directed by: Sasishanker Release date: May 05, 2004 Surya has really come of age. He has matured from his docile acting to fiery performances in KAKHA KAKHA and PITAMAGAN. Now, in AVM produced PERALAGAN, he comes up with astounding performance in a dual role. PERALAGAN, a remake of Malayalam hit KUNJI KOONAN, is watchable for its clean family entertainment and Surya's performance as a hunchbacked and polio-affected rustic youth. Like Kamal Haasan and Vikram, Surya too is changing his get ups and style of acting in each film. The film is about Chinna and Karthik (both roles played by Surya) and Jyothika and their triangle love. Chinna is physically andicapped youth. Though he has ugly face, his heart is beautiful; he goes out of his way to help others, which earns him sympathy and adoration from his village folks. On the other hand, we have Karthik (again Surya), a college student who loves his classmate Jyothika. Their love comes to halt when Jothika's father, Devan, a police officer, comes to know of their affair. He sends her to his native village. She meets Chinna there. Chinna assures her that he would get her married to the man of her heart but Jyothika gets killed in a fight involving a gangster.
Meanwhile, Chinna comes across an orphaned- poor-blind girl (Jyothika again) and they get strike a chord with each other. With the help of Chinna she gets 'sight' again, with the eyes of deceased Jothika are transplanted on her. The real drama begins now. Who this girl belongs to? Watch the film for the surprising climax.
The film has full entertainment. Surya walks away the full honours. He is splendid as Chinna. Jothika is okay. Yuvan Shankar Raja's tunes are peppy. Rathnavelu's camera provides rich look. Director Sasishankar has tried hard to provide full entertainment with out any so called 'action' scenes.
