Within just two years of span, Surya has emerged as the most bankable star from a jinxed star position. With a row of hits - PITAMAGAN, KAKHA KAKHA and PERALAGAN, he's the most sought after young hero in Tamil films today. Only Vikram has that craze other than Surya now. Performancewise, he's growing astoundingly in each film. 

In Manirathnam's latest film, AYUTHA EZHATHU, too he came out with a brilliant performance. Indeed, without Surya's astounding portrayal of a spirited youth, the film could have been disaster. For, the film is just technically good. Manirathnam clearly has lost magic in this film. 

No wonder then that Manirathnam has all praises for him. "What a difference that I am seeing him in his performance," said the great auteur. "He has come a long way from NERUKKU NAER."

Manirathnam produced NERUKKU NAER in which Surya made a debut as a hero. He had seen string of flops in the early phase of career. With director Bala's NANDA, he stormed onto the scene of Tamil filmdom.
