Meastro Ilayaraja speaks up!
The music composer was recently in Hyderabad for recording of the film, NINU CHOODAKA NENU UNDALENU. He spoke with reporters briefly. Responding to the query about his short gap in his career, he said that he might have got gap in films but not for music. He said that he has been living with music ever since he started playing tabla as a child. So I don't think there is gap in my music practice, he said.
"If I don't have films to work with, I visit temples," said the great composer. When asked about working with newcomers like director Bala, Tangar Bachhan and Sachin, he said that he doesn't give music based on persons but on script. "Frankly speaking, it is easy to work with newcomers. It is very comfortable to work with them, as they don't have preconceived notions. Yet, I try to give my best to everyone."
How did he cope up with new music trends and standards? "There are no standards for music. And there is nothing 'new' in music. Only we use 'Swaras' differently. I am not working now to give music for new generation. I work for the music. Music is my life. Whichever generations listen to my music, I give my music."
