Very ordinary lyrics and music

Piriyada Varam Vendum  is the remake of the Malayalam hit Niram,  which had a melodious musical score. However, the music for the remake is very ordinary. Surprising, coming from S A Rajkumar, who has been churning hit melodies of late. The lyrics by Vairamuthu, Tamil Nadu's poet laureate, is another big disappointment.

The first song in the album, Priyavanthey santhithen  sung by Hariharan is a foot-tapping number. The second song, vidaikodu vidaikodu, by Unnikrishnan and Sujatha has a score reminiscent of some old melodies of Illayaraja and Rajkumar's own in his early days. The song Vascoda gama Vasco da gama sung by Devan and Sujatha is repeated on both sides though it has nothing else in terms of lyrics except for some good beats.

On side B is a Punjabi pop number, dikki diki  lona, sung by Mano and Sujatha. The song reminds one of the Telugu songs that get dubbed into Tamil, with lyrics written to match the lip synchronisation. Azhagu ponnu  by Devan, Krishnaraj, Anuradha Sriram and Jayanthi is a very ordinary song. One gets a feeling of having heard it many times before.

Rajkumar and Vairamuthu, it seems, have done half-hearted work on the album.
