Nostalgia Tit-bits from the past..

by Shucitha

Rajesh Khanna Imagine the super hit film Anand  without Babu Mushai  Rajesh Khanna and Amitabh. Yeah that is what it would have been because the film was first planned by Raj Kapoor, starring Uttam Kumar as the as the doctor and himself the terminally ill patient. Then Raj kapoor dropped the plan and the project passed on to Hrishida. Here again the first choice for the lead role was Kishore Kumar and then Shashi Kapoor. Finally the film materialised in the set up that we all saw and appreciated. Babu Mushai this is the truth.

Straight from the horses mouth. The famous Ghodi Dhanno who had her own part to play in the mega classic Sholay  was taken from the stables of Mahalaxmi where she used to participate in Derby's.

Amjad Khan What was Sholay without the legendary Gabbar Singh? Amjad Khan was actually never a choice for the role. Just because Sunil Dutt, Shatrughan and Danny had refused to do the role that director Ramesh Sippy reluctantly had to take in Amjad Khan.

Madhumati was the first film that had its Mahurat outside the shores of India in a foreign country. Director Bimal Roy had the Mahurat shot of Madhumati done in Czechoslovakia with Dilip Kumar facing the camera way back in 1956.

In 1975, Rajesh Khanna was admitted to the breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai for an operation on his backside...for piles.

DevAnand V Shantaram had offered the main lead of Do Aankhen Bara Haath to Dev Anand. But Dev saheb did not like the story idea and refused the film on the pretext that the hero of the film did not gel with his image.
V Shantaram eventually did the film himself and it went on to be a hit.
