Born on 18th July 1982 to Capt. Dr. Ashok Chopra and Dr. Madhu Chopra, Priyanka was crowned Miss World in 2000. Coming from an army background she was used to frequent travels, thus exposing her to the multi cultural Indian Society. She started her education from La Martiniere Girls College in Lucknow and studied for a short while at Maria Goretti College in Bareilly. She completed her 10th from Boston, USA. Her goal was to become a criminal psychologist or a software engineer.
Priyanka was always interested in modelling and her desire was to win a beauty pageant. After returning from Boston she received a call to participate in the Femina Miss India Pageant. Her parents had given her pictures without her knowledge. Her dreams came true when she went on to participate in the Miss World Beauty pageant. This episode completely changed her life. During this course she also received threat call as Beauty pageant were banned in her hometown Uttar Pradesh.
After winning the title there were rumours that the pageant was rigged up as Priyanka made a mistake in her final answer. She was asked ' Which living women do you appreciate the most?' She replied Mother Teresa, while Mother Teresa passed away in 1997. Once she won the title she slowly moved on to films from where she became a rage.
Priyanka says that her family, especially her mother has been her sole inspiration. Priyanka is a genuine, down to earth and is a loving personality. She loves Indian Music and sane. She enjoys reading, biographies being her favourite. She also has a flair for writing poetry and short stories. She has worked a lot for several welfare programmes. She has won prizes for Extempore Speech and was a topper in English language. She also has received prizes for singing and dancing. She was the only Indian from her class in the US to be selected for the National opus Honour Choir.
She is the latest beauty queens to join the Bollywood industry. She did an acting course in Mumbai and grabbed her first film starring opposite Sunny Deol in Andaaz. The films that followed were Waqt, Aitraaz, Mujse Shaadi Karoge, Barsaat, Yakeen, Karam. Her upcoming movies are Krissh, Don and Bluff master.
She also won the award for her debut film Andaaz and the best villain for Aitraaz. May success always be with her.
