Hero Surya married his three year long-time girlfriend, actress Jyothika. The wedding ceremony took place today (September 11, 2006) at 7.20 am at Hotel Park Sheraton in Chennai. The couple got married as per Hindu tradition. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi was the special guest at the wedding. Surya's father, Sivakumar, a successful yesteryear actor, took the mangalsutra to the chief minister first for his blessings.

All the leading film personalities from Tamil film industry and Telugu film industry attended the ceremony.
