Review of Tum
By: Rajdeep Gupta Starring: Manisha Koirala, Karan Nath, Netanya Singh and Rajat Kapoor Music: Himesh Reshammiya Producer: Venus Records & Tapes Private Limited Director: Aruna Raje With Manisha Koirala, everything that is bold and different can be linked. If EK CHOTI SI LOVE STORY was a fire without any smoke, then TUM we presume is a one week stand. A sordid screenplay, no high voltage performers and a guessable climax- these make it a very stale and gloomy headline. Aruna Raje delves into the old woman and a young man relationship, and could only produce steamy scenes but interest. The story opens with a married couple Kamini (Manisha Koirala) and Vinod's (Rajat Kapoor) daily activities. They have been married for the last 18 years and sparks of romance is missing. Vinod thus decides to celebrate their marriage bash with great pomp and show. Vinod is to fly from New York and Kamini to Mauritius to celebrate their anniversary. Circumstances find Kamini alone in Mauritius and a young photographer Jatin (Karan Nath) gives her company. The evening is eventful as Kamini finds herself in bed with Jatin the very next day. Vinod also joins her on the same day. Kamini wants to confess everything to Vinod. Jatin meanwhile gets mixed with Kamini's family, and he has more problems with his ladylove Netanya Singh. So will Kamini tell the truth? What happens when Vinod comes to know about it? Watch TUM if you really care to know. Performance wise Manisha fits well to her screen name Kamini meaning desire. She does her part well and looks sensuous in the intimate scenes. Karan Nath is poor and any sense of his performance being ranked is a waste. Netanya Singh is hot and that was her essence in the movie. Rajat Kapoor like DIL CHAHTA HAI puts forward a splendid performance. Rajat perhaps got for the first time a lengthy role to perform. The rest of the starcast is ok. Kyun mera dil.. by Adnan Sami is a superb track and the cinematography is also quite good. Dialogues lack the emotional upheaval that a sensitive film should have. The climax of the film isn't chilling and the story is dragged a lot; it goes from one phase to another without even a clue. Also a bold subject like TUM has to hit with the masses quite well, but it doesn't give the urbane audience that feel. Aruna Raje isn't a good story teller and wasn't able to choose the right starcast. Netanya Singh's role in the movie is pretty puzzling. With all due regards, we suggest you better stay away from this movie. TUM-A Dangerous Obsession with none to obsess! Recent Reviews I PROUD TO BE AN INDIAN RUDRAKSH
