Movie Review - THE HERO-Review
Cast: Sunny Deol, Preity Zinta, Priyanka Chopra, Amrish Puri, Kabir Bedi, Rajpal Yadav Music Director: Uttam Singh Director: Anil Sharma Director Anil Sharma and Sunny Deol duo's GADAR - EK PREM KATHA was a huge success in the box office. But, this time their second effort has gone for a toss. 'THE HERO' has not been able to create the same waves, even when the film's budget is 60 Crores. And just for a single song 3 crore is been spent. The film had been expected to make it big but it has too many loopholes. Sunny plays a role of a secret agent like James Bond. He works for the department of the country's intelligence group and been appointed to stop terrorism and catch Ishaa Khan (Amrish Puri) and his group. A Kasmiri Belle Reshma (Preity Zinta) falls in love with our spy. Arjun Khanna being a trusted agent takes the opportunity and uses her to catch the terrorist. The relationship leads to the engagement of the couple; unfortunately Reshma disappears mysteriously when the terrorists bomb the engagement party. In the meantime, Pakistani terrorists try to smuggle the nuclear bomb to Canada with the help of a very wealthy businessman Zakaria (Kabir Bedi) to assemble it. The Hero follows and quite interestingly, Zakaria also has a daughter Shayna (Priyanka Chopra) who falls in love with the hero. The hero being a real hero goes ahead to marry her so as to make it much easier to bust the secret and when the marriage is to happen, the mask goes up to reveal the identity of the The Hero. The climax has been shot in the train and ends in a typical dramatic way. Sunny Deol could have given much better performance if given a better scope. Pretty Preity is awesome and is a grace throughout the film. The newcomer Priyanka Chopra doesn't look so promising. Kabir Bedi looks superficial. Amrish Puri's character must have been stronger. The cinematography is not so great. The scenes in Canada are good. The main drawback of the film is the long conversations anti Pak with lots of unnecessary explanations and less of action though it is supposed to be an action movie. It seems the director wanted to make it look like a typical English Bond movies but has failed to a large extent. But whatever action scenes are there in the film are good. The songs are grand and good money is been spent on the song picturization. Too much of money is being wasted on the film unnecessarily for the new experimentation.
