Asaiyil Oru Kaditham

By A Prasad

Cast : Prasanth, Kaushalya, Chandini, Vivek
Director : Chelva
Music : Deva

Asaiyil Oru Kaditham The film is worth watching if you want to see Prasanth act and not play the usual role of the 'boy meets girl and falls in love' story line and for this, the credit goes to Chelva. Chandini (debutant) is Prasanth's classmate at college and has a massive crush on him. She wears glamourous outfits to seduce him, but the hero seems to be interested only in chemicals and glass tubes in the lab. Santhana Bharathi is the local don and Chandini is his daughter and so we know that a fight between the don and the hero is in the offing, but it does take place for the wrong reason and that's what surprises you.

To get to the real storyline, our hero who is also a pop singer takes a bus to Pollachi to attend his close buddy and neighbor Anand's wedding. On the way, at a bus stop he sees Kaushalya sitting by the wayside and enjoying a song. He is smitten by her and starts dreaming of her. In the village he meets up with his friends Vivek, Thamu and Vyapuri and reveals that he is in love but does not know the identity of the girl. Next, we see Kaushalya in Anand's house and the hero now starts getting hyperactive. He sends a love letter through a girl to Kaushalya and it does not strike him to find out the identity of the girl through the local folk. Kaushalya breaks down in tears, the reason being that she is the bride. Her father takes offence but it's kept under wraps. The marriage is over and Prasanth realises his mistake. He asks for pardon and everyone is in a mood to forgive and forget.

Now the hero, instead of avoiding Kaushalya, invites the newly weds for a dinner and tries meeting her often. Yet another time, Prasanth chasing the goons of the don, enters the house of Anand and right into the bedroom where Kaushalya is waiting for Anand. Now Anand sees Prasanth leave. All this adds up to Kaushalya attempting suicide and here too, Prasanth turns up to save her. He is shocked that he is the cause for her misery. He explains everything to Anand and leaves Kaushalya with her hubby. But Anand's doubts are fuelled by his father Rajan P Dev, and why Rajan is after Kaushalya's blood is not known, but to get back to the story, Anand starts behaving funnily. He goes berserk and even attempts to throw acid on his wife's face, when Prasanth staying next door enters and saves her. He takes her to her house in the village. Now Kaushalya's father has just come to his in-laws' house and hears that his daughter and lover have eloped. He storms out and on seeing Prasanth and Kaushalya together, flies into a rage. They are thrown out. Meanwhile, Chandini, after her quota of dream songs with Prasanth, is told by Anand that her lover boy (yes, somewhere down the line our hero, taken aback by her suicide attempt and her inconsiderate father, decides to say yes to her), was having a live-in relationship with Kaushalya. Chandini starts bawling and daddy comes in a hurry to the village with goons, Anand and his father. Kaushalya's father comes to know that his son-in-law is a maniac. He too turns up at the same spot. Now Anand and father grab Kaushalya to take her back. (Why? They want to pour acid on her or else they cannot sleep!) The don and his men rush to fight the hero and predictably, they lose. Prasanth delivers the one liner - "I am a suspect even before marriage and you are a suspect after marriage and so, lets stay together as friends." Kaushalya smiles and they walk off.

Despite a lot of flaws, the movie gives Prasanth the scope to emote. Chandini, with her hourglass figure, provides the oomph but the only expression on her face is of lust. Needless to say, Kaushalya does her role with ease. Vivek's comedy score is really hilarious and provides real good laughs. Deva's music and Selvaraj's camerawork is passable.
