The entire film rotates around a chawl. There is one Mr Ganpath, who happens to be the voice of the people in the chawl. And then there is Pravin Seth (Sachin Khedkar) who wants to construct an industrial complex, bringing down the chawl. The chawlers are very much against this.
Aman (Aman Verma) wants to do his thesis on chawl life. Now he goes on delving into each and everyone's personal life, and we get to know what chawl life is like. Mean time Aman goes goey eyed over Rinke Khanna.
Aman also achieves a special status. This irks Pravin Seth. What's more? Now the situation gets a lille serious. And here comes Raveena Tandon. And guess what the woman has a brilliant plan, which is of course hilarious. And the story goes on. Better watched than said.
Musically the film is a disaster. Daboo Malik and Nitin Raikwar's tunes do not help much. Cinematography by Rajeev Shrivastava is so so. Performance wise Vijay Raaz walks away with al laurels. Aman Verma has given out his best. His approach is very sincere. The leading heroines Raveena Tandon, Namrata Shirodkar, Diya Mirza, Rinke Khanna, Divya Dutta and Shweta Menon are simply brilliant. Rest lend adequate support. Sushmita Sen's song is good, but her role is wasted.
All in all PRAAN JAYE PAR SHAAN NA JAYE is not good but watchable once.
