Herapheri

Ratings : * * * (Timepass)
Special comment : Have a good time laughing
Anything more : Don't expect histrionics from Tabu because she's hardly there
Remake of a Malayalam film, Priyadarshan presents a comedy for all those who are tired of watching David Dhawan comedies. Herapheri is a clean-cut comedy, which effortlessly makes you laugh.
Babu Rao (Paresh Rawal) has two paying guests Raju (Akshay Kumar) and Shyam (Sunil Shetty) who live below poverty line (read unemployed). One day they get a call meant for a rich businessman Devi Prasad (Kulbhushan Kharbanda), that his granddaughter has been kidnapped. The goons (Gulshan Grover and team) demand 20 lakhs as ransom. This wrong call triggers a plan in Raju's mind about making a quick buck; so they call up the real Devi Prasad and ask for 40 lakhs. After lots of complications, we have a happy ending. Priyadarshan has given a good film but as Hindi audiences are difficult to please he had to put in a love track of Tabu and Sunil, wherein they sing dream sequence songs. Tabu makes a guest appearance in the film and does make a mark. The film moves at a reasonable pace though had it been faster, one would enjoy it more. But the songs are just there without much need.
And the funny part is that the lyricist went haywire with too many nonsensical words like chan chana noo, pon pon, tinak tinak, tunak tunak, and more. Perhaps he didn't have the right lyrics to fill in.
Paresh Rawal is brilliant in the film. Akshay Kumar is better than Sunil Shetty and, Namrata in a song appearance appears cold. On the whole, this film is mainly for the city audiences who can understand and appreciate subtle humour.
