Every now or then we start to feel that Bollywood is coming out of an age with its new age innovative cinema in RUDRAKASH and modern beauty like MAQBOOL, and then you get one real nut bolt film like KISMAT. Understandably KISMAT is a waste of time and energy. After all KISMAT is a masala flick, which has been traced in Bollywood infinite times, and this one seriously except Priyanka Chopra's sensuality doesn't have anything to speak about.

KISMAT is the story of Tony (Bobby Deol) abandoned and running helter shelter to earn his livelihood. As young Tony grows up he becomes a street smart and hit upon the beautiful Sapna (Priyanka Chopra) in a pub. Though Sapna respects Tony's feelings she is already engaged to Arjun Bhatia (Amit Behl). Tony isn't discouraged by the fact and now plans to get bigger in life get Sapna.

Tony falls in wrong hands of Raj Mallya (Kabir Bedi) and threatens an honest Drug Administrator Dr.Gosain (Mohan Joshi) to sign certain papers. The papers ultimately make Dr.Gosain go behind bars and his wife (Smita Jayakar) commit suicide. Tony unaware that Dr.Gosain is Sapna's father tries to rectify his mistake. The rest of the story is how Tony takes revenge.

Anand Raj Anand has coined the melodious tracks of KISMAT amongst which 'Mahi Ve.." and "Sajna Re Sajna.." is too good. Notwithstanding cinematography (Sripad Natu) is excellent with full marks to the picturisation of Priyanka's numbers. Still from KISMAT

Performance wise Bobby Deol breaks his long hiatus from films in an anti-role, and understandably acts differently. He is good in the action sequences and performs the dramatic sequences well. Priyanka Chopra had to steal the limelight, and only if she knew that TUM would be releasing alongside KISMAT, she would have exposed bit more. Priyanka is photogenic. Kabir Bedi is suave in his role and presents a dignified performance. Ashish Vidyarthi is wasted in his role and it goes for Mohan Joshi too. The rest of the starcast is ok.

KISMAT heavily suffers due to its screenplay and needless songs. The violence depicted in the movie by Guddu Dhanoa brings back memories of ZIDDI and SALAKHEN. Guddu unlike his earlier flicks ZIDDI is unable to keep the viewers engrossed due to its sordid screenplay. Also one is unable to understand the plot of the movie-the hero running to get the girl and the girl forgiving him at the climax, when she knows, he is the culprit of her mother's murder is really puzzling.

Both the movies released this weekend have one word common- sex, and it's very often that such films held great futures at the box-office. KISMAT we believe due to Priyanka Chopra and Deol's stronghold in North will work, but ultimately its kismat is dark.
