Director: Vikram Bhatt Producer: K. P. Singh Music: Anu Malik and Anand Raj Anand Cast: Bobby Deol, Lara Dutta, Milind Soman and Gul Panag
It is not new for filmmakers to experiment with suspense thrillers, expecting it to be their window to a box office hit. And Jurm is no exception.
The story revolves around Avinash (Bobby Deol), a rich successful businessman who is arrested for the murder of his wife Sanjana (Lara Dutta). Rohit (Milind Soman) - his best friend and a legal advisor of his business, fights his case. Avinash, to his dismay finds himself trapped in the murder case. It is only Sonia (Gul Panag), Avinash's trusted friend who stands by him throughout and helps him face the crisis. Though Sonia loves Avinash dearly, she is unable to express her feelings for him.
As things start getting complicated, the mystery deepens. Did Avinash kill his wife? If no, who has? Will the real murderer be caught? This forms the rest of the plot.
The movie as a whole is very predictable. Considering the fact that it is a 'suspense' thriller, the film does not live up to one's expectations. Of course there are certain scenes that grip your attention and make you bite your fingernails!
Jurm bears resemblance to many films including Humraaz and Fida.
Bobby Deol as usual has given a commendable performance. His expressions, including body language is apt for all the scenes. Lara Dutta, Milind Soman and Gul Panag are just about average. However Gul could have done better if she had a meatier role. As for the other star cast, Ashish Vidyarthi who played a cop in the film has given a praiseworthy performance.
Music by Anu Malik and Anand Raaj Anand is average. Some of the songs are very hummable like say 'Nazrein Teri Nazrein', 'Meri Chaahaton Ka' and 'Aksar Ye Hota Hain Pyaar Mein'.
Jurm might not be able to hold its own at the box office for too long and overall, the film is a failure.
