From the outset, the promos of
Chaahat Ek Nasha have been showing abundant skin-show. Registering this impact on mind when the moviegoers step into the multiplexes, they expect to watch a show laced with whopping flesh exposure, sex sequences and nothing else but what they are offered on screen is an emotional love triangle story. Wait...
Chaahat Ek Nasha also carries the sex masala to entertain the audience since they have been witnessing it on the channels already.

The movie tells the story of Mallika (Manisha Koirala), a pop star who crazily loves Rahul (Aryan Vaid), the owner of a renowned music company, R K Music World. Rahul too is in love with her. But when he decides to tie the nuptial knot with her, she politely refuses to marry him, as she does not have faith on marriages and is of the view that once the couple is married, love vanishes from their happy lives. Being physically attached to Rahul, Mallika wants the things going on without the wedlock.
The turns into the narrative come up when the downfall of Mallika takes place. The chaos happens in her albums. Rahul comes across a new aspiring singer and dancer, Rashmi (Preeti Jhangiani) and launches her in his new music album. Luck comes her way instantly and her album becomes a smashit making her a star overnight. Things start changing and the two begin to love each other. Rahul now decides to marry Rashmi. When the reality is downed upon Mallika, she gets an emotional shock and is shattered utterly. She approaches to Rahul and asks him to marry her but now he has already committed to Rashmi and is in love with her also. It's at this juncture, being drunk she orders her personal bodyguard, Jaidev (Sharad Kapoor) to eliminate Rahul.
Chaahat Ek Nasha entices the viewers in first half, as it grips the cinegoers with the scenes of: "the singing sensation Mallika and Rahul's love, Mallika's popularity, her downfall, Rahul's marriage proposal to her and her polite refusal, Rashmi's introduction in music world, the birth of love between Rahul and Rashmi and Mallika's jealousy on their love affair. These all incidents make the appearance on screen in rapid succession leaving the audiences get glued to their seats. And of course they expect this racy continuation in the second half as well but unfortunately this half looks monotonous. The comedy sequences and Jaidev's one-sided love for Mallika look forced in the script. There was absolutely no need to put them into the narrative. They certainly disturb the flow.
An archaic story has been presented in a new style,
Chaahat Ek Nasha has no novelty to offer. Director Jai Prakash deserves marks only for the dramatic frames between the three leading characters Aryan, Manisha and Preeti. Overall his direction is lackluster. Cinematography is average. Action is okay. Frankly, the music is fabulous and has been handled by Anand Raj Anand with much care but since the makers have not promoted it well, it has lost the value on the listeners.
Among the performers, Manisha Koirala delivers the goods brilliantly. Aryan Vaid is appropriate with his role. Preeti Jhangiani steals the show with his breathtaking beauty and competent acting. Sharad Kapoor as usual wastes his talent with bland performance. The rest of the cast looks pasty-faced.
In entirety,
Chaahat - Ek Nasha is an average fare.
