Music: Nadeem-Shravan
Dharmesh Darshan's
Bewafaa was vouched as very 'special' for many reasons. For Kareena Kapoor, it would have meant a saviour after a series of flops. It is an even more significant film for Dharmesh Darshan who made blockbusters such as
Lootere and
Raja Hindustani and then struggled miserably at the box office with films such as
Mela.

The story revolves around Anjali (Kareena Kapoor) who is the younger daughter of her parents (Kabir Bedi and Nafisa Ali) settled in Montreal, Canada. Aarti (Sushmita Sen), her elder sister is married to Aditya Sahai (Anil Kapoor), a rich industrialist who dots on her. Anjali loves her sister a lot and confides about Raja (Akshay Kumar), her love interest and musician. Aarti promises that she would convince her parents for their marriage once she delivers. In the turn of events that follow, Anjali is forced to marry her brother-in-law, Aditya Sahai. Aditya on the other hand is very indifferent and does not have time for Anjali or his lovely babies. He absorbs himself completely in his work and has no feelings for them. Anjali nevertheless fulfills her duties as a true wife but is not able to bridge the gap between herself and her hubby.
This is when Raja reenters her life. Raja by now is very successful and a famous fusion singer. Anjali is torn apart between her love of her life and her duties as a wife and decides to pursue her extra-marital relationship with her lover. The problems begin when Dil (Manoj Bajpai) and his wife Pallavi (Shamita Shetty), Aditya's close friends and confidantes, get to know of the clandestine meetings. What happens next? This forms the climax of the plot.
The story is similar to Chopra's
Gumrah, which is about the dilemma of a woman who must marry her widowed brother-in-law for the children's sake. It was Mala Sinha who gave a tremendous performance in the film and this time it is undoubtedly Kareena Kapoor. Her expression and dialogue delivery is praiseworthy and so is Akshay Kumar's perfomance. The two, one must agree have come a long way as an actor.
While the first half is interesting, the second-half lets you down. The pace of the story goes at snail-level and does not quite hold your interest till the end.
Nadeem-Shravan music is quite enticing, especially the songs 'Ek Dilruba Hai' and 'Pyaar Ka Anjaam' amongst others. Dialogues by Dharmesh Darshan and Raj Sinha are good. The cinematography is extremely good and gives the entire film a very 'rich' look. As for Sushmita Sen, though she has a very brief role in the film, she is truly brilliant and so is Anil Kapoor. Manoj Bajpai and Shamita Shetty are just average and have not contributed much to the film.
The film opened well at the box office. However, does
Bewafaa have the potential to become a hit? We need to wait and watch...
