Question: Mix a potion -of a psycho killer hunting beautiful women, a heroine coming to the town, three men, falling in love with her. What do you smell of?
Answer: Obviously Tinnu Verma's latest flick 'BAAZ- A Bird In Danger' is born. Interesting title, though due to the sordid state of the script it finds itself in danger.
Question: Is it the season of thriller in Bollywood?
Answer: Well after the release of 'KUCH TO HAI' and to an extent an inspiration from the film 'RAAZ', 'BAAZ' goes another pedestal in the role play again the formula of getting a film hit if the earlier done ok. Director Tinnu Verma tries his level best to bring exotic locales, fighting abroad scenes but all this in waste.
Big question: Who is the bird anyway?
Answer: Well! The sultry siren Lolo, Neha Chopra (Karisma Kapoor) is the beautiful bird who is being hunted down for her ravishing looks by three men. All of them love her dearly and can go to any extent to get her. So you have Jai Singh Dabhral (Jackie Shroff), a mayor of Nainital, a womanizer in every sense. Raj (Dino Morea), a vagabond and Harshvardhan (Suniel Shetty), a police officer.
Question: So how does the story develop?
Answer: Well! All the characters in the story have some dark shade clanged to them. As Neha comes on an assignment to Nainital for decorating the house of Jai, she is quite confused by the certain situations that happen in her house. In one such chance, she dashed upon Raj and after some meetings love blossoms. Nevertheless, Neha constantly is guarded and kept watch by Harshvardhan and Preeti Rastogi (Preeti Jhangiani).
Question: Why her?
Answer : Well! there have been a serial of murders of beautiful women take place and the police believed that Neha is next on the list. Neha is questioned about the character of Raj and she did not find any qualms of him. Sometimes Raj is framed and sometimes jai. The matter gets worse as Preeti is killed. What does the story ultimately talks is something really to find out. There is a surprise package from Harshvardhan; maybe one of the ugly birds in the cage is he. Interestingly, he gets attracted to the beautiful objects and to him "beauty is purity".
Question: Any Oscar winning performance?
Answer : Sorry none to talk about. However, Karisma Kapoor after RISHTEY has played a very naïve role in the film. She gets frightened in certain situations but does not look comical and all throughout the movie she acts in a composed manner, not getting hysterical. Now that is Lolo we know. Now Apna Jaggu Dada has nothing much to do apart from drooling with women. Though he appeals with his dialogue "Apne Employee Ko Main Apna Property Samjhata Hoon." From Chunibabu in DEVDAS to Jai Singh, he has come a long way. Dino Morea looks like a puppet and acts like a doll. His dialogue delivery does not co-relate with his facial emotions, time now Dino, give importance to your acting session rather than sitting before the mirror.
Question: Who stands out in the movie?
Answer : To an extent Suniel Sheety delivers but could have done much better. With KAANTE's overwhelming success, the audience expects something more from him. His character does not suit him especially in the last half an hour of the movie; he looks bit out of sorts when he says "Kaam Mera Naam Tera". However, he stands out in the action sequence. The cinematography is done by Raju Kay Gee and art direction by Nitish Roy.
Question: Howz the music?
Answer : The music in the film is low standard and wonders a caliber of Ismail Darbar. However, the only song that lives up is "Arre Arre Jala Koi Mita Koi" by Sunidhi Chauhan from the 8 tracks. The song is pictured upon Jackie Shroff and Karishma Kapoor and the choreography done by Pony Verma really makes it passable.
Question: Pace of the movie.
Answer : The film first half was interesting and makes the audience wonder who-the-killer-is, but the last half an hour is typecast and really makes one bore. One also wonders why Aditi Govarithikar for a single scene took part in the movie. It could have been done by anybody. About Tinnu Verma, one feels he is quite obsessed with Alfred Hitchcock's flicks and there is no message centering in the movie.
Question: So where do you go?
Answer : Well if at all you are a big fan of Lolo or the three men, you just might manage to watch it. Otherwise, do not bother. You are sure to get a headache.
