Review of AB TAK CHAPPAN

By: Rajdeep Gupta

Starring: Nana Patekar, Revathy, Mohan Agashe, Yashpal Sharma, Prasad Purandare and Hrishta Bhatt Still from AB TAK CHAPPAN
Music: Salim Suleman
Producer: Varma Corporation
Director: Shimit Amin

Its surprising how much of a real life experience helps. Nana Patekar is a disclipned figure in Bollywood and interestingly Sadhu Agashe, his character is pretty much like him. Unblemished performance from the entire AB TAK CHAPPAN crew, and presentation of a realistic occupation makes it interesting. Cop related movies are in full swing, and the angle from, which the movie is made is 'hatke' after all Ramgopal Varma offers you something different always.

AB TAK CHAPPAN, starring Sadhu Agashe (Nana Patekar) and his wife, Namitha (Revathy), is based on the life of an encounter specialist. Sadhu leads a highly creditable team, which has Imtiaz Siddiqui (Yashpal Sharma) also, and believes the only way to wipe out crime, is kill the criminals. He meets a lot of obstacles in his path amongst, which Imtiaz Siddiqui is hell bent to move him from his post.

Sadhu meanwhile develops friendship with underworld henchman Don Zameer Zafar (Prasad Purandare). Situation becomes further complicated with the appointment of a new commissioner in Mr. Suchak (Jeeva). He along with Imtiaz Siddiqui makes Sadhu's life miserable. Namitha is murdered in the process. Watch AB TAK CHAPPAN to know what happens eventually.

Ramgopal Varma had sweared that it would be Nana Patekar's career best performance, and you got to believe his words. Intensity and dedication pays and Nana uses both of it well. His pain is conveyed through eyes and gait. His emotional bond with his son is worth viewing. Revathy is excellent in her role and Yashpal Sharma as usual is brilliant. The rest of the starcast is good.Still from AB TAK CHAPPAN

Action director (Pervez Khan) should be lauded for excellent action sequences. The encounters carried out are mind blowing and Shimit Amin's Los Angeles background helped. Salim Suleman's background music is as chilling like in DARNA MANNA HAI. Cinematography (Vishal Sinha) is sincere and dialogues (Sandeep Srivastava) are excellent notably: "doctors cure, engineers build and I kill" does go very well with the movie.

The film has had its moments. Leaving out the encounters that took place one scene that stands apart is Nana's composed manner when Revathy is shot. Also, a grim movie like this has some hilarious moments when Nana tells Hrishta Bhatt to make a Sambar curry, is pretty hilarious. The movie starts at a slow note and gradually progresses with each reel and the climax is a befitting one to the movie.

Shimit Amin is not a novice behind camera, but directing a Nana Patekar movie is always tough. Nevertheless Shimit proves his worth, and brings out a realistic viewpoint on a cop's life. The movie taught that like every profession an encounter specialist job is not a different one. He is basically wiping out the unwanted elements of society, and truly AB TAK CHAPPAN is a movie worth watching.
