Another wife swapping story. We've seen this plot earlier in Ajnabee and Fun - Can Be Dangerous Sometimes. What makes it different from the two earlier flicks is that this film flows humorously.
Sunil [Ranvir Shorey] and Malati [Konkona Sen Sharma], mid 30s, live in Mumbai with their young son. They have all comforts that life should have, just that both of them lead a mechanical life. All those sparks are not there anymore. They need something in life. But what it is? Both can't dream of cheating on the other.
Sunil changes suddenly. Sparks are back in Malati's life. All this is a result of Sunil's secret obsession. Wife swapping. Initially she feels like tearing his hair listening to his preposterous ideas. But then somehow he convinces her.
They meet the other 'consenting adults': Vinod [Rajat Kapoor] and Kalpana [Koel Purie]. So everything is planned. But only if things ever went as they were planned. The first half of the film is sheer fun. Second half drops. The pathetic thing in the whole film is the climax.
Director Rajat Kapoor has done a good job, but he should have concentrated on the climax. Dialogues by Anurag Kashyap and Rajat Kapoor are close to real. Performance wise Ranvir Shorey is excellent. Konkona Sen Sharma has done her job with splendor. Rajat and Koel Purie have nothing much. Naseeruddin Shah in that one scene is splendid.
Overall Mixed Doubles will not appeal the middle class as they may not approve the concept of wife swapping.
