Sizzling Sush
Sushmita Sen made India proud as he won the Miss Universe crown in 1994. She was 19 then. She displayed great maturity when asked about the after feel of winning the crown. According to her, she told that it was more a responsibility than glamour alone.
With father in the Defence, Sush's initially years were spent city and school hopping. Taking advantage of her good looks and height, she got into modeling initially to earn her pocket money. It was not late before she got noticed and entered the Femina Miss India Contest. What happened after that is history.
She made her debut in
Dastak, where she played a victim to stalking, which was played by Sharad Kapoor. She didn't make the required mark at the box office with her performance. Not the one to give up easily, she did a comic role in David Dhawan's
Biwi No.1, where she played the role of the 'other' woman. This got her instant recognition and she also won the Filmfare Best Supporting Actress award in 1999 for the same. Then she was cast opposite Abhishek Bachchan in
Bus Itna Sa Khwab Hai, but it was her role in
Filhaal, that won her rave reviews for her strong character portrayal in the film. Her dance numbers in
Sirf Tum,
Fiza and
Kyonki, Main Jhooth Nahi Bolta changed her equation in Bollywood. All came to see the new face of Sushmita Sen.
She was in news again when she adopted a baby girl, whom she named 'Renee.' It was a uphill fight to adopt a baby for a single woman in a conservative society like ours. Renee was apparently a sick and unhealthy baby when Sushmita decided to adopt her. Life for Sush has changed ever since. She supposedly is said to have changed her habits, so that they would not influence the child as she grows.
