Palekar on Paheli

Still from PaheliPune, Sep 27 (PTI) Paheli, India's official entry to the Oscar awards this year, would definitely change the views of the people abroad about India and the concept of Indian films, its director Amol Palekar said today.

"This film is inherently Indian, linked to the soil of the country. I am sure, it will definitely change the views of the people abroad about India," a visibly excited Palekar told reporters here.

"Everything from its story based on a `Duvidha' written by Vijaydan Detha, to its screenplay and designing by Sandhya Gokhale is `truly Indian'," he said.

The film's music can be traced to Indian folk and has been backed up by some excellent performances by Sharukh Khan, Rani Mukherjee ... to the smallest actor," he said.

Palekar said he felt very contended by the Film Federation of India's citation for Paheli which said "the film is truly Indian and extremely original."

"This is something which makes me feel very very proud," Palekar said adding, "this has made me happy because it was a unanimous choice (by FFI) based on merit."
