MohanlalWhile Ram Gopal Varma has finalized Amitabh Bachchan and his latest muse Mohit Alawat in the roles of Gabbar Singh and Jai for his version of Sholay, speculations were rife on who would play the character of Thakur played by Sanjeev Kumar. Sanjeev Kumar gave a brilliant performance in his underplayed (and also underrated) character of Thakur in the original.

Finally RGV has got his Thakur. He has finalized south superstar Mohanlal for the role. Mohanlal has watched Sholay twice and is all charged up to play Thakur with amputated hands in the remake. He has left the adaptation on Varma.

Varma had introduced Mohanlal in Hindi films with his underworld film Company. But post Company Mohanlal, who is not much conversant with Hindi, never got any interesting offer in Hindi cinema.
