A special court on Monday rejected Bollywood actor Fardeen Khan' petition for amending charges in the charge sheet filed against him in a cocaine seizure case. It said there was no merit in his plea.
Mr. Khan moved the court because punishment under the Narcotics Act varies with the quantum of drug found in the possession of the accused. While Mr. Khan pleaded that he wanted to buy one gram of cocaine from drug peddler and co-accused Nasir Abdul Karim Khan at the time of his arrest in 2001, the charge sheet filed by the Narcotics Control Bureau alleged that nine grams of cocaine was seized from the duo.
Possession of one gram of narcotics attracts a six-month jail term while possession of two grams of a drug or quantity above that provides for 10 years' rigorous imprisonment under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
