Big B advocates the importance of mother tongue to South Africans

Amitabh BachchanSouth African Indians have a lot to do on their hands and learning their native language is last on their priority list. But now things have reversed and learning their native language seems to be the first on their priority list. One endorsement from Amitabh Bachchan and things change drastically.

On request from Veena Lutchman, the Chairperson of the institute of Indian Languages in South Africa, Bachchan penned a letter supporting the importance of learning mother tongue languages.

He said that national and international problems could be addressed more effectively if mother tongue language was used as the mode of communication.

Veena Lutchman read Big B's letter on the radio and the response to this was startling. People from all over the country were calling her, trying to find out where they could learn Indian language. This shows that there is great interest among the Indians settled abroad to learn their mother tongue.

This is welcome news to all as there has been concern in South Africa that the Indian Language were dying a slow death. Of the five languages which were imported in this country (which are Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Urdu and Gujarati), very few of them are used often. English is the most highly used language.

Bollywood stars are influencing the young generation. The letter from Amitabh Bachchan is being distributed everywhere in the community. Plans have been made to get in endorsement from other popular Bollywood stars.
