Finally the controversial film THE LEADER has hit theatres. The film deals with the congress group politics in Kerala. The biggest controversy that came with this film was that actors were mimicking the leaders of congress like K Karunakaran who was the chief minister of Kerala for some time his son K Muraleesharan who is the present pradesh congress president and his daughter Padmaja Venugopal (chairperson of Kerala tourist development corporation now) and the present chief minister A K Antony.

The core theme of the film is one prominent leader in a party is trying to place his daughter as the new chief minister. Aishwarya is acting as the leaders daughter. Vijayakumar is the hero in this film The producer and director had faced lot hard ships to complete the shooting of this film. Once the director of the film, Deepan was even manhandled by miscreants. And one of the producers was even stabbed. Later distributors withdrew. It is said that this was due to the political compulsions.

K Karunakaran is known as "Leader" in Kerala's congress politics. So every one relates this film to K Karunakaran. The leading actress Aishwarya returned to Chennai after getting threatening calls.
