July 1, 2002 is the deadline for popular cine artists to stay away from acting in TV serials or producing them. The general body meeting of the association of Malayalam cine artists is meeting on June 30. It is to brief its members about the decision taken earlier jointly by them and the film producers. It is heard that a faction of the artists are not happy with the decisions and there will be a splitting up when the matter comes up for discussion. It is alleged that while resolving the conflict wider interests of the film artists were not taken for consideration and that it was to save a Dileep from the boycott call of producers a hurried settlement was reached.
The main part of it was to cut down the remuneration of artists (applicable to only those getting 50,000 and above) by 25 % to 30 % voluntarily. The artists association has decided not to increase the remuneration for the next two years. Actors who are more popular will desist from acting in TV serials and other entertainment programs. Artists and producers will not produce TV serials. They will have to get permission from chamber to participate in private stage shows. There will be no more star interviews on channels. Private stage shows cannot be shown on channels except a three-minute news clipping.
The proposed meeting of the artists association is to take up this matter for approval. It is in this background that the announcement of Sreenivasan program by Kairali TV is going to be crucial. Incidentally Mammootty, president of artists association is also the chairman of Kairali TV. By all its probability the program with Sreenivasan could have been conceived and commissioned earlier. Similarly there are several other TV programs featuring leading film artists. Nobody knows how many of these programs involving film artists will be terminated or wound up in order to honor the decisions of the joint meeting.
Cheriya Sreeniyum Valiya Lokavum'
It is the silver jubilee year of Sreenivasan in film acting. He is instrumental in bringing a new phase to satires and comedies on silver screen with his screenplays and his highly hilarious roles. All his satires had real sad notes of Kerala social life. While the public had sumptuous laugh he made people think twice about our society and life. He looked around his own village and found out the resources for his scenarios.
In the Karali TV program named 'Cheriya Sreeniyum Valiya Lokavum' (Little Sreeni and the big world) he enacts his real experiences, this time labeling it as memories. He discusses people places and issues in his own inimitable style in this serial. It has both comedy touch and serious mood. This is to be telecast soon.
