Meera Jasmine wins National Award

Meera Jasmine Meera Jasmine, with a beautiful smile has won the heart of hundreds. This talented actress of the South Indian Films won the National Award for best actress for the Malayalam film PADAM ONNU ORU VILAPAM this year. The award has shot Meera to the pinnacle of her career.

The movie PADAM ONNU ORU VILAPAM, directed by T.V. Chandran has heavily criticised the practise of polygamy among the Muslims of North Kerala. In the film, the protagonist (played by Meera jasmine) tries to break free from the system by trying to pursue her education instead of marrying for convenience.

As an actress, Meera is in her formative years, and has only completed three years in the film industry. She started her career with the Malayalam movie SUTRADHARAN (2001) directed by Lohithadas. Though the film flopped, her subsequent films showcased her talents as an actress. Mira was upset that she could not get any movie after her film flopped. However, her debut Tamil film RUN, opposite Madhavan was a massive hit. With RUN, Meera made an entry into commercial cinema.

Her performance in the latest Mani Ratnam's movie in Tamil, AYUTHA EZHUTHU won her critical acclaim. Soon, Meera was flooded with offers from the Telugu film industry, and she became a huge hit there as well. Her latest Telugu movie AMMAYI BAGUNDI was appreciated for her histrionics.

Meera even bagged last year's Kerala State award for her performance in PADAM ONNU ORU VILAPAM and KASTOORIMAN. There has been no deliberate effort on Meera's part to build her career. As a firm believer of god, she has decided to gift the cash prize that she won this year, along with the award, to Palakkad-based Sneham Charitable Trust.

She has acted in three South Indian languages- Malayalam, Tamil, and Telugu. Soon, she will also be seen in a Kannada film opposite leading Kannada actor Puneet Rajkumar. This versatile actress has slowly but surely assured a place in the hearts of the entire South Indian cinemagoers.
