Noted filmmaker, writer and Jnanpith winner M. T. Vasudevan Nair's famous short story Vaanaprastham is to be re-created on celluloid as Theerthaadanam. Theerthaadanam will be the first feature film to be directed by Kannan, who had been an associate of MT, is many of his films.
Kannan has already earned a name for himself by adapting Bhasa's Sanskrit play Karnabhaaram for the mini-screen and by recreating as a tele-film M.T's story Kariyilakal Moodiya Vazhithaarakal. He has also made documentaries like Thirunaavaaya, Panthirukulaththinte Karmabhoomi etc.
Vaanaprastham, the original short story by M.T., has always been a treat for the lovers of Malayalam literature. The story, which treats the subject of human relationships on a totally different plane, has a teacher and a student as the pivotal characters. And when Vaanaprastham, becomes Theerthaadanam, on celluloid, these two pivotal characters will be played by Jayaram and Suhasini respectively.

For Jayaram, this would be a really challenging role as the character is portrayed in two stages of life, in the twenties as well as in the sixties. Moreover, being a character created by M. T, it is surely going to be a lifetime role for Jayaram.
Director Kannan has got with him a very good team of highly talented and gifted people to work for the film including Kaithapram, M. J. Radhakrishnan, Sreekar Prasad, Pattanom Rasheed, Hareendranath, and Natarajan etc.
The film, to be produced by Bose under the banner of Chembakasseril Productions will be shot at Kolloor (in and around Mookambika temple), Gudajaadri etc and will commence by the last week of May Seems the film Theerthaadanam is going to be a real theerthaadanam (pilgrimage) for film-lovers!
