Madhu, one of the greatest stars of Malayalam film industry has ever seen, turned 70. As he does not believe in celebrations his 70th birthday, the day passed of quietly.
He was born in 1933, September 28. His real name was Madhavan Nair. But later Thikkurissi Sukumaran Nair, another epoch-making actor, gave him a new, short name- then onwards he was known as Madhu.
He was working as a college lecturer when acting bug bit him. He bid good-bye to his teaching profession and joined National school of Drama to learn acting. After completing course, he joined films to pursue his dream. Then he was the only well-educated actor in Malayalam cinema, as career in films was not considered decent.
In a four decades long acting career He acted in 300 films. But initial years were of struggle as Madhu entered Malayalam Cinema while Prem Nazir and Sathyan, two great stars, were ruling the roost. Later Madhu captured his own place. Later he was lucky to pursue his profession with many generations like Sukumaran-Soman, Mammooty-Mohanlal, Dileep, Jayaram.
His first movie NINAMANINJA KALPADUKAL released at 1963. But before that he had acted in Ramu Kariat's MOODUPADAM. Madhu also acted in Hindi films. He got this chance through K. A. Abbas. Madhu acted with Amitabh Bachchan in K. A. Abbas SAATH HINDUSTANI.
