The superstar who bought 130 acres of land in Mahabalipuram, the beach resort on the outskirts of the metro, found that the documents he possessed were not even worth their paper value. He was conned by the local crooks to buy useless land (unclaimed and govt property) for a hefty sum.
With a few crores of rupees at stake, he decided to get help. Earlier, he could have used the good offices of Kovai Chezhiyan, a former Minister said to be close to the powers that be, but he died recently. So, Mammooty went to Dhanu, the producer of Kandukondain Kandukondain, who is a close friend of MDMK Chief Vaiko as both of them were former DMK men. Using the offices of Vaiko, Mammooty got an appointment with Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Karunanidhi and seeked his intervention.
Messages went to the local Panchayat in the area and now, official pattas (documents) have been issued. Mammooty finally got the papers and has heaved a sigh of relief. Mammooty, who usually stays away from political functions, visited Karunanidhi on his birthday and gifted him a shawl.
The local functionaries in the area where the disputed land is located however say that Mammooty had bought the land for a song with the full knowledge that it was common property. Apparently, those who sold him the land had given him an assurance that the documents would be set right, but the AIADMK members in the Panchayat created problems. The whole dealing may land the superstar in yet another controversy.
