Kavya Maadhavan: Going Places
by: A Swamy

Kavya MaadhavanKavya Maadhavan was just two and a half year old, when she stepped on to the stage. And at the tender age of five, she made her entry into filmdom. And now, at the young age of 16, she is one of the busiest heroines of Malayalam Cine Industry. That's Kavya Madhavan.

Kavya Madhavan hails from Neeleswaram in Kasargode district. She happened to be bright and active as a child. She gave performances on the stage and did well, or rather very well. But her parents P.Madhavan and Syamala Devi never ever had the thought of making their daughter a film star. But it happened, as it was perhaps destined to happen. When director Kamal gave an ad in the newspaper for a child artist in his film PookaalamVaravayi . She was finally Kavya was included in the cast as a child artist.

A star was born! Nobody noticed her or even remembered her name since there were many other names to be remembered. Then followed some other films in which Kavya appeared, like Azhakiyaravanan , Oraalmaathram , Bhoothakannadi , Krishnagudiyil Oru Pranayakaalaththu etc.

Kavya Maadhavan and Kunchacko BobanBut nobody noticed this little girl who was blossoming into a fresh and charming heroine. Nobody? Yes, somebody did notice. And that somebody was Lal Jose, the one who had been associated with Pookaalam Varavayi , Azhakiya Ravanan  etc,

He dreamt of making a movie with Kavya as the heroine. And he did make. In Lal Jose's second film Chanranudikkunna Dikkil , Kavya was the leading lady. And as Radha, the character that she played in the film, she was appreciated by one and all.

When Kavya Madhavan made her debut as a heroine in Chandranudikkuna Dikkil , she was in tenth standard in Raja's High School, Neeleswaram. She was bound to take care of her studies and her exams, and she did that with utmost sincerity. So, she took a break, a small break, and then, after fighting it out with her studies and exams, she came back to films with a bang.

Kavya Maadhavan and Kunchacko BobanThe character of Celine in Satyan Anthicaud's Kochu Kochu Santhoshangal  made an impact on the viewers sensibility though there were others like Jayaram, Bhanupriya, Lekshmi Gopalaswami etc in the cast. And then followed Shankar Vaalathunkal's Sahayaatrikaykku Snehapoorvam  and Kamal's Madhuranombarakaattu  and recently Rajasenan's Darling Darling.

In Sahayaatrikaykku Snehapoorvam , Kavya was cast opposite none other than the teenage sensation Kunchacko Boban, in Madhuranombarakaattu , though she wasn't the leading lady, her character was well etched out and was appreciated much. And in Darling Darling, she is cast as the leading lady opposite Dileep and Vineeth.

Rafi-Mecartin's Thenakaasipattanam  and T.N.Gopakumar's Jeevan Mosai  are some of Kavya's forthcoming ventures. In Thenkaasipattanam  Kavya is cast along with a host of leading artists including Suresh Gopi, Lal, Samyuktha Verma and Geethu Mohandas.

In Jeevan Mosai , an adaptation of Tara Shankar Banerjee's Aarogyanikethan  by noted journalist T.N.Gopakuma, she has got a really challenging role to play as Manjari. And so Kavya Madhavan, who is just doing her higher secondary education is also interested in dance, mono-act etc,. Now, this young heroine is one of the prominent leading ladies of Malayalam Cinema at present and holds promises of a brilliant career.
