Drought of Challenging roles: Jayaram
Friday, April 23, 2004
It's been twenty years in the field of acting and today Jayaram is of the opinion that there are hardly an challenging roles for actors of his generation. His Last film MANASINAKKARE did well at the box office. The film starred senior actress Sheela and was about the state of old people.
Jayaram says that he feels he is not getting any challenging roles. And the sad part is that he can't do anything about it. Also he has stopped dreaming about such roles. Had his dreams come true then he would have been a producer he tells us.
Jayaram has been doing the same kind of roles again and again, so what does he feel bored? Jayaram admits that doing the same king of role again and again does not impress him. While doing such films he gets a feeling that it might flop. But then after signing the film it is a commitment, he can't do anything about it. He also adds that not him, but most of the actors face this situation at some point of their career.
Talking about Malayalam Cinema as a whole he says that the industry is way behind. Just see how the others have gone ahead. We still lag behind technically and also in the aspects of filmmaking he says.
Jayaram says that we should change as per the needs of the generation. If today one were to shoot in the same locales as 10 years ago nobody would want to see it. Producers are ready to erect a set in Chennai but and not ready to shoot in foreign locales. Every other language is going to New Zealand and Switzerland. But Malayalam cinema is still shot in Ooty and nearby places.
Finally does he feel challenged because so many youngsters are doing well? Not really. Jayaram says that h too is young so he hardly feels threatened.
