Time is flying folks! And see the consequences. The ex super stars are trying hard to remain in the field but one serious problem they face now is the dearth of heroines. Everybody is talking about how difficult it is to get a heroine for Mohanlal and Mammootty. They are importing heroines from other languages. Mohanlal had to act opposite Nagma in CHATHURANGAM. Vani Viswanath could have looked better but nobody thought about her. Navya Nair did a lover role; it was a brief one but viewers could not accept it. Navya looked like a tiny girl.

In MR. BRAMACHARI Mohanlal had been cast opposite Meena. One has lost count of the number of films Mohanlal has acted with Meena. Last time Mohanlal acted with a young Malayali heroine in 'LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL'. It was Samyuktha varma, Vasundhara Das in 'RAVANAPRABHU' and Kiran in 'THANDAVAM' who were brought from Chennai and Mumbai.

It is all the more difficult for Mammootty to get a young heroine though he looks younger than Mohanlal. But everybody knows that he has crossed 50 years. Kavya Madahvan recently said it would look awkward to play a romantic heroine with Mammootty. "We are all teenagers, now, isn't it"? She asked a journalist. Yes she is right. All the heroines in Malayalam now are teenagers like Meera Jasmine, Navya Nair, Kavya Madhavan, Renuka Menon, Nandana and Bhavana. Gheethu Mohan Das is the only one who could do a lead role opposite Mohanlal or Mammootty with her mature looks. The others are just little girls in cradles. One would accuse the super stars as cradle snatchers if they still play love and romantic roles opposite them.

Siddique had to bring in a not so busy Rambha from Tamil to pair with Mammootty in 'CHRONIC BACHELOR'. Well! CHRONIC BACHELOR would only get a chronic spinster is it not? In this context the news about the third super star Suresh Gopi is an interesting one indeed.

The news is that Suresh Gopi who was waiting desperately to sign any damn role that came first, had signed one with a younger heroine Bahvana in the female lead. Do you Know Bhavana? The girl who did a good role in 'NAMMAL'? Yes she out smarted the heroine Renuka Menon and is well noticed by directors. So Krishnan Ambadi is casting Suresh Gopi and Bhavana in 'SUMITRA'. It could be a click. The trend has changed and story has become the pivotal point again in Malayalam films. Thanks to Ranjith to make this trend remain for some more time. Krishnan Ambadi is directing the film and the script is written by the ex super scriptwriter S N Swamy. 'SUMITRA' tells the story of a teenage girl compelled to marry an aged businessman with first wife separated. This film has Boban kunchako and Seetha as well. Let us see if Mohanlal, Mammootty and Suresh Gopi can re-establish their grip in Malayalam.
