by: Unni R.Nair

Rating: **** Paisa Vasul
Starring:Mammotty, Athira
Music:Mohan Sithara
Director:Vinayan

MoomothyIt seems it's really great time for Mammootty. While Jabbar Patel's Baba Saheb Ambedkar is winning for him accolades from all over, at home too Mammootty is sending the cash registers ringing with his latest releases. While his Onam (September) release Valiyettan is still doing its rounds in theatres, his latest Christmas release Dadasahib too is drawing large numbers of people to almost all releasing centres. Dadasahib is Mammootty's first film with director Vinayan, who has already established himself as a hit maker with films like Aakashaganga & Vaasanthiyum, Leksmiyum pinne Njaanum.Dada Mohammed Sahib, popularly called Dadasahib, is an old freedom fighter, and his son Abubacker, a former subeidar in the army. Abubacker, the brave son of a brave father, cannot help himself from reacting when he finds some terrorist activities and arms racket taking place in his own town Thaliyoor. But finally he finds himself being arrested on charges of espionage, treason and terrorist activity and the court too gives its final verdict-the death sentence. The President too rejects his plea and finally the sentence is carried out. It is after this that the story takes a new turn and a battle ensues between good and the evil forces.

Mammootty Though there seems to be too much of violence and bloodshed towards the end of the film, it is indeed watchable on account of Mammootty's performance in the double role of Dadasahib and Abubacker. It is as Dadasahib, the elderly character that Mammootty dazzles the audience. Of course he is at ease as Abubacker too. The rest of the cast, which includes newcomer Athira as Abubacker's lover, Saikumar, Rajan.P.Dev, Murali, Babu Namboothiri, Kalabhavan Mani, Cochin Haneefa, Madhupal, Kaveri etc have done good work of their respective roles. Romantic hero of yesteryears Mohan (of Chattakaari fame) makes a comeback as Governor Rahmath Ali. Lyrics by Yusuf Ali Kechery have been set to tune by Mohan Sithara and the team has given some really lilting tunes. S.Suresh Babu, who is being introduced as the scenarist, shows promises of a really successful career in mainstream Malayalam Cinema. G.Murali's editing and Sanjeev Shankar's cinematography are the other highlights of the film.
