It seems Mohanlal is slipping further every time a new film of his gets released while Mammooty is scoring off from the projects in hand. The latest film of Mohanlal to hit the screen was Mr. Brahmachari. But Mr. Brahmachari was not up to the mark. This new film by Thulasi Das who entered the field 15 years ago featuring late Silk Smitha in a vampire role reminds us one thing that Mohanlal in the past could make people laugh without the help of sleazy dialogue. He was equally good at comedy roles and that he did it with his natural humor and body language. Then one wonders what happened to Mohanlal! Actually it is not Mohanlal to be blamed. He is trying to be a bit different but the path is not yet clear for him. And that is why he is landing up in such films. The next film that has Mohanlal in the lead is ORU KILICHUNDAN MAMPAZHAM by Priyadarsan. One hopes the Priyadarsan- Sreenivasan- Mohanlal magic does a lot of wonders in the film.
But Mammootty is maintaining his name as a choosy artist. He plays a safe game. When it seemed Malayalam film did not earn him anything but failure he switched over to Tamil and came back occasionally to do a fairly good role. Currently he is waiting for the release of his 'CHRONIC BACHELOR' and is acting in 'PATTALAM'. Now the fact that Mammootty has bagged a role in a film by Ranjith makes the position of Mahanlal doubly unsafe. Earlier Ranjith wanted to direct a film with Mohanlal in the lead role in different tone. Some misunderstanding took place and the project, which was to be produced by actor Augustine got aborted. Some myopic producer who could not see well into the future was told to be responsible for the non-take off Ranjith- Mohanlal film. However Mammootty could consolidate his position in Malayalam once Ranjith project that is named as 'RAVU MAYUNNU' (night dissolves) takes off. Ambalakkara films who produced VALYETTAN are producing it.
Another picture that awaits Mammootty is the one being directed by Rafi Makkartin (remember the super hit THENKASI PATTANAM?). It will have Suresh Gopi as well.
