Mohanlal, moustache and Malayalam films.
By: Ms Jophy John

Mohanlal There is no other Mohanlal film than THANDAVAM, which attracted so much negative vibes from all quarters. Director Hariharan was telling Mohanlal that he should not have accepted a role like Kasi in THANDAVAM.

To which Mohanlal responded a 'yes, I should not have'. It is learned that Mohanlal decided not to accept roles of this kind anymore. He has a commitment to act in two films; one is by Priyadarsan and the other by Ranjith. What Ranjith has for Mohanlal is a role of a convict. A sentimental drama between a father who is a convict and his young son. This film may turn the wheels of luck to Mohanlal once again.

Ranjith claims it was he who gave Mohanlal a handle bar moustache, which became a trademark for the kind of roles Mohanlal did in NARASIMHAM, RAVANAPRABHU and THANDAVAM. It is the handle bar moustache that took those pictures to heights in box office. It has become a contagious one now because Dileep has also worn one in MEESA MADHAVAN.

The same moustache fails Mohanlal now in box office. Women refuse to see him with that handle bar on his face and dancing with Chennai belles like Alphornso, Anusree and Mumtaj.

So? So, now Ranjith is reported to have said that he is going to take away the deadly mustache from Malayalam cinema. He will not allow the mustache to sink the film industry. The role he did cast Mohanlal in his 'MARAM PEYYUMPOL' is a moustache less one. Okay let us see the wonder that follows! We are waiting.
