You have been invited by the super star Rajnikanth to become his heroine in 'Baba', and by Kamal Hasan in his 'Anbe Sivam'. Why did you reject these precious offers, which any other actress would have jumped at instantly ?

When the producers approached me to become the heroine, I was required to sign a contract to act as a model. I had a feeling that as a model I might compel me to wear sexy costumes that would make me uncomfortable. I am not interested in such roles. I want my films worthy of seeing in the company of my parents and my younger sister. If in the future when my husband or my children watch my films they should not be ashamed or uncomfortable. No, I don't want to do such films. Further I was asked to remain unmarried for a period of one year. I was not sure then whether I could meet the demand.

So you are getting married soon?

Not yet finalized. But it does not mean that I should totally discount my individual rights on the professional front.

What was the reaction from Rajnikanth camp?

Rejecting an offer of heroine role by somebody was their first experience, I was told. But they had complimented me on that count. They respected my sentiments and the personal priority of placing family life above every thing. While I do not regret, I consider the offer as recognition of my work. It is for the same reason I had rejected the offer from Mr. Kamal Hasan.

But you have acted in the Tamil version of Thenkasippattanam?

The role I had in Thenkasippattanam was not different from that of Malayalam original. It was the same director also. A high degree of decency was maintained by way of costumes and nature of the role. Nobody would accuse me of anything after watching the film. I was not 'glamorous' in that film.

You said the marriage is not yet finalized. Why have you cut down the number of films considerably?

Even earlier I had not accepted more number of roles than I could handle during a considerable period. I will accept good roles. I never expected this much fame and acceptance. Not expecting any either. I am content.

Will you continue acting after marriage?

Marriage itself is not decided.

But news has spread long ago that you are going to marry Mr. Biju Menon?

Marriage will take place on its own course. That will be formally announced and intimated also. Let the date be fixed. Can I marry on a date that is decided by the media?

Have you seen the film 'Sivam' in which Biju Menon was the hero?

No.

Hasn't he asked to see the film and let him know your opinion?

We have not met since Sivam released.

I have yet to get phone connection in my new residence.

What are the new films you are signed to act?

The first film is the one which cinematographer Vipin Mohan is going to direct. It is Vipin Mohan who did the cinematography for the first film I acted. Dileep will be the hero.

Then comes the film Chronic Bachelor. Mr. Mammootty is the hero. Siddique and Lal will jointly direct the film. Sibi Malayil has asked my dates for his next film.

What do you do at leisure ?

I listen to music and watch T V Programs.

Do you cook?

Somewhat. I have learned watching my mother doing it. I can prepare Aviyal, Erissery, Olan, Sambar and so on.

What happened to your education?

Studying in regular college is almost done. I have registered as a private candidate now.
