80's dream boy, Rahman after a brief hiatus, stages a comeback. His debut movie KOODEVIDE (1983) was a mighty hit. KOODEVIDE, helmed by Padmarajan brought an overnight stardom status to Rahman. His riveting performance in the film as Ravi, a neglected and unruly schoolboy and son of a MP, had been extraordinary. Rahman bagged the 'Best Supporting Actor,' Kerala State award.
Rahman was then flooded with offers. VEENA MEETTIYA VILANGUKAL, ITHIRI POOVE CHUVANNA POOVE, MAZHAVIL KOODARAM, KARIYILAKKATTUPOLE- are some of his notable movies. He had been one of the most sought-after heroes of 80's. He acted with Mammooty and Mohanlal in important supporting roles. Bharathan, Padmaraja, Fazil, I.V. Sasi- all talented directors have succesfully tapped his talent. But Rahman failed to make a single hit in Malayalam as a hero. His ill luck began from there.
Soon he lost roles in Malayalam. Migration to other South Indian languages was his next option. Initially he was a success in Tamil and Telugu. He had PUTHIYA PUTHIR and PUTHUPUTHU ARTHANKAL to his credit.
In 2000, he returned into the Malayalam film industry where he did a police officer's role in DREAMS starring Suresh Gopi. The film was a flop.
Rahman has signed Renjith's next Mammootty-starrer, BLACK. He calls it his second coming. He plays a negative-role in this film. He believes superstar Mammootty will bring him luck. Why Mammootty? Mammootty had been the hero of his successful debut movie KOODEVIDE.
Renjith, the director of the film says that though Rahman plays a negative character, his role is crucial. Lal produces this film.
