Sunder Das always tries to look straight at life. His stories are realistic. Only Kuberan was different. It coincided with the beginning of the Dileep era in Malayalam. A bit out of proportion illogical in characterization of the male lead role, Kuberan did not help Sunder Das in maintaining his name he earned earlier. His has been a style of narrating family stories in traditional visual structure.His new film Katha, seems a trial to recoup the position before it is lost completely.

Mullassery Madhava Menon wants his only son Nandu to become a medical practitioner. Under compulsion from him, Nandu appears for the entrance examination for medical studies. Nandu knows he would not make it but Madhava Menon has an illusion that his son is sure to get a seat. Madhava Menon has plans to start a hospital. He names it as Mullasery Medicals!

Nandu knows well that it is not going to happen. What interests him most is music. He along with his likeminded friends had formed a music club. He spends most of his time in the club. One can't say for sure Nandu and his four friends are really interested in music. It is a passing phase. A superficial interest. A mere trait of less serious youth. It was only a pastime of lazy youth that reflected here in the activities of Nandu.

Meanwhile a girl comes in the neighborhood. Meera. She is from Calcutta. She is the daughter of Raghavan Nambiar a friend of Madhava Menon. Meera was born in Calcutta. She is coming to Kerala for the first time. She had all the freedom in Mullasery house. Madhava Menon and wife Sethulakshmy become fond of Meera. She quickly notices that Nandu is just drifting and does not pay any attention to his future. She decides to encroach into his life. She wants to change his attitude. He resists her attempts to create an order in his chaotic routine.

Nandu does not yield initially. But Meera is able to bring in changes in him. He does not want to accept that Meera really changed him. At the same time he wanted to reveal his mind and heart to her. But an incident takes place, that altogether changes the course of their life. Sunder Das narrates this story in this Revathy Kalamandir production by Menaka Suresh.

Vasyavachas writes the script for Katha. Janardhanan, Narendraprasad, Mal Aravindan, Oduvil, are in the main roles.

Prithviraj and Kavya Madhavan play the lead roles in Katha as Nandu and Meera. An important role is handled by Abbas the Tamil teen-age actor. Gireesh Puthanchery has penned the lyrics. Ouseppachan scores music. The shooting of Katha is in progress in Guruvayoor.
