Here comes T K Rajeev Kumar with an intriguing story of a
Sundari pretty girl of a remote village who becomes Miss world. She was an ordinary girl. She gets the rare chance of representing India in the Miss World competition. Now she has changed. The village has also changed. Just because it happened to be the birthplace of a celebrity. The village has lost its anonymity and calmness.
Director Rajeev Kumar has followed this subject with his imagination. Rajeev Kumar's
Sesham has been selected as the best feature film for the Kerala state film awards 2002. He is innovative in selecting themes for his films.
Kakkathuruth is tiny village surrounded by water. Yet Sundari reached out. She is the daughter of Sasankan a soldier. She goes to the city. When she joined the college she was just an ordinary girl with all the innocence and simplicity of the countryside. A half sari and the traditional top had made her an extraordinary beautiful girl. All the attire in the modern city could not beat her to the back row. Yet she was scoffed at by the city bred boys and girls. However she is unaffected by the remarks. She has her attention concentrated on a specific goal. She has no time to listen to the crap.
It was when a multinational consumer company came out with a promotional scheme for marketing their soap. Buying three cakes of their toilet soap would make any body eligible for entering preliminary rounds for Miss World competition!
A group of students sent in an application in Sundari's name. It was their chance to make fun of Sundari. But what followed made all wonder stuck. Luck lifted Sundari to dizzying heights. To Sundari It really became an entry point for Miss World competition. She was chosen to represent India in the contest.
She became the center of everything in Kakkathuruth. Media people combed the village with cameras. It was all Features and photo stories. Kakkathuruth enjoyed the electronic drama in the TV channels. There were executives from multinational and local business groups to enter in to contracts with her. The entire village has adapted to the modern ways of living.
But the serenity is lost in the village.
A village lad Kumaran who likes Sundari from his childhood days was noticing the changes that were taking place in Kakkathuruth. His mind did not digest the changes that were taking place. Sundari also likes him. But the present circumstances took everything off course to a new direction. It creates problems.
T K Rajeev Kumar had conceived the theme in a light humorous way slowly changes into one of serious nature.
Geethu Mohan Das who did the role of the documentary filmmaker in
Sesham is portraying the character of Sundari in this film. It is Anup a new actor who plays the role of Kumaran. Jagathy Sreekumar, Jagadeesh, Maniyan Pilla Raju, Rajan P Dev, T P Madhavan, P Balachandran, Nandakumar, Bindu Panikkar, Priyanka, are the other artists in the film.
Rajeev Kumar himself has written the script for the film. Rajeev Ravi handles the camera. Sarath scores music. Art direction is by Latha Rajeev Kurien. Jayasankar of Appu cinema creations produces this film and the shooting is going on in Karunagappally and Quilon.
