Deepal Shaw from Kalyug The Baby Doll has grown up and she's all ready to woo the audience in one the boldest films to release this year. She is Deepal Shaw, the women who knows exactly what she wants and her to be released Kalyug is going to be one of her stepping stones to stardom.

In a tête-à-tête with IndiaFM, Deepal spills out her heart.

Firstly, what made you sign for Kalyug?
Every newcomer wants to start off with something and I think Kalyug is a wonderful launch pad for me. I always harbored the feelings of becoming the greatest actor around and more so wanted to rule the world by showing my acting prowess and I think Kalyug gives all that to me. Be it the arc of the character, be it the various looks of the character, be it the media speculation of the character - I think Annie is the character that consummated all the other characters of the film.

How is Mahesh Bhatt as a Godfather?
Godfather is a very common word. Let me put Mahesh Bhatt as my strength. It is very humbling when someone like him answers in an optimistic manner when he said that I am his strength. He has been my greatest inspiration.

Tell us about your role in Kalyug.
Well, as the whole world knows by now and they can run their imaginations wild. I play the role of a porn-star. We tend to lose sight that every porn-star has a womanly side to her and in Kalyug that is exactly what we are talking about. It's very simple. When she wants to laugh she laughs, and when she wants to cry she cries. She is just like anyone of us but the only difference is that she is a victim of time and luck. She has been a victim of the greatest affliction called pornography and human-trafficking. She tries to fight it but the forces of evil are against her and finally succumbs to it. When she realizes that a lot of people have lost their lives she teams up with another victim Kunal and they fight against the porn mafia.

Didn't you have any inhibitions playing such a role for your debut film?
An actor should be like a soldier. You shouldn't have any inhibitions when you are part of a war. You know you are an actor and will have to essay any kind of a role because every film is a mirror of the society. Today, I'm playing a porn star tomorrow I might play a dumb and a deaf girl, a wife, a tom-boy, etc. Today films are all about fictioning the fact. You take a piece of fact, fiction it for cinematic purposes and your film is ready.

Did you do any preparations for the film?
For a porn-star definitely not but we were educated a lot about pornography and the porn mafia. It is a $ 56 Billion business. I got goose-bumps when I saw some documentaries on American porn.

Tell us about your co-star Kunal Khemu?
Kunal and I fight like cats and dogs because we are really close to each other. I love teasing him. He told me that he was tired of the rumors of both of us having an affair and I told him to just enjoy the attention. If people think it is true let them.

Deepal Shaw from Kalyug Amrita Singh is making a comeback in this film. How was it like working with her?
Amrita Singh is younger than all of us put together. She is so lively and a sweetheart. She has a charming smile and it lights up the entire atmosphere. She is so much fun to be with but at the same time so professional. No other adjective needed - just a great actor.

Bhatt favourite Emraan Hashmi who is known for his on-screen kissing is in the film as well. So do we see something between the two of you?
You are going to see more of Emraan than just kissing. There is going to be more of sensationalism with him as he plays a sex-shop owner. His new looks is marvelous. He is the surprise package of the film and has definitely added a lot of value for Kalyug.

The songs are already creating quite a buzz.
Definitely, the music is very promising. The Bhatts are maestros in great music. There are only four songs in the film as Kalyug doesn't demand a lot of songs. I really like 'Dheere Dheere' which is picturised on me. It takes you to the deep dark world of pornography and is like a trip to the audience. It is a visual feast for the eyes.

Your take on director Mohit Suri.
I just read one of his interviews where he has given full marks for his dedication. Mohit, I love you for that. I used to feel so contented when he said good work after a shot because I worked so hard for the film. He is a task-master and for some he is a slave driver. He always wanted the best because he knew we had it in us to provide the best. The best part of him is that he welcomes suggestions. He is funny as well and doesn't feel stressed out when he is working because he is so passionate about it.

There were rumours that you were originally supposed to play Mohit Suri's sister Smiley's role in the film.
No that is the most stupid rumor ever because Kalyug is about the big bad world of pornography. My role was always of the female protagonist where I endorse the role of a porn-star. Smiley's role is of Kunal's wife. They are two diverse roles and can never be mixed.

A promising story, good music, good promotions, fresh faces. What do you think is the USP of the film?
The film does not just have one USP. I'll start in a hierarchy. One - I assure you that this is going to be a hit film without stars. Two - the Bhatt camp. In his 33 year old career, he has made all kinds of film and has his own audience. Three - the film deals with a subject, which no one has tried before. And four - The film has great music. So the amalgamation of these elements gives you an amazing product.

A quick fire round...
Shoot!

Why the change from Shah to Shaw?
Because people think I am a Gujrati. I am not a Gujrati but a UP-ite. My mom hails from Lucknow and my grandfather migrated from Ayodhya. I was always Shaw. The media created the Shah.

The funniest way in which your name has been pronounced
Deepowl. I have also been called Nepol and once in Zurich someone pronounced it Nipowl. That was so pervert. Ha ha.

Number of fan mails
Because of my cyber crime case, I get a lot of messages on my old number. I am an HMV artist so all my mail goes to them. But I see to it that I personally reply to every one of them.

A raunchy dance move you would have said no to?
I think dance comes to me very naturally so everything I do looks so dignified. It's not me who is saying this, it's the people who have said it to me and I'm just seconding that.

Remixes are....
Maintaining the older songs retaining their Indianness, keeping in mind that it is a small scale industry types. You will have good remixes and bad remixes. So don't underestimate the force.

Is your tan for real?
Oh my God. This is real. I'm sitting without making.

Deepal Shaw from Kalyug The hottest remix girl ever?
I'm not just hot; I'm a lot of things. So I'll say Deepal Shaw.

Money in music videos
Nil. You have to put in money to be in a music video.

Are you OK with screen nudity?
Nudity has its own perceptions. For some it may be erotica and for some it may be pornography. For me it all depends on the way how aesthetically it is done rather than just saying no to nudity.

If a guy hit on you....
I would hit him back.

One dress piece you don't want to be caught wearing
My towel

Do you work out?
I used to work out when I was participating for Miss India. But I hate working out. I'm into basketball and cricket. I eat a lot but I don't gain much weight.

Would you go back to doing music videos?
If I enhance the quality of the video, I would definitely do it.

You have apparently signed on a Hollywood film. Tell us about it?
It's Robert DeNiro's daughter's film and is co-produced by HMV Sa Re Ga Ma. It has Naomi Campbell and Sushmita Sen. A lot of twists and turns happen because of my character. She is so contrary to my role in Kalyug.

What films have you signed back here?
I have a long way to go. I believe in quality and not quantity. I have a lot of offers but am going slow.

New Year resolutions
I don't make resolutions because I never live up to them. I'm just going to see to it that I work really hard and make every one around me happy.
