The Oscar-winning star said feisty Colombian-born Stella Arroyave changed him for the better, even though they are very different. The 68-year-old said: "When I was young and arrogant I wanted to do my own thing.

"Now my life is more stable I'm beginning to understand more how a woman's mind works. Don't ask me how, but I appreciate it.

"My wife is a Latina and they're different. Stella's a very passionate woman and that scares me because I come from a very cold, dark, Welsh/Nordic background.

He added to Britain's Telegraph newspaper: "But now I've got a relationship I enjoy. She's the best thing that's ever happened in my life."
