Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
By: Vikash Shankar

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless MindWriter Charlie Kaufman and insightful director Michel Gondry have brought to the world Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. This is a story of an extraordinarily different couple who strive to keep the wonderful memories of their companion after finding each other.

Joel (Jim Carrey) has an enchanting encounter with the damsel Clementine (Kate Winslet), which results in a rocky relationship. As years pass by, Joel finds that Clementine has erased their relationship from her memory through a special company led by Dr. Howard Mierzwiak (Tom Wilkinson), who masters this unique treatment. Devastated and furious, Joel decides to get the same treatment. However, in the process, Joel comes to his senses when he finds he is making the biggest mistake of his life; erasing his strangely fitting soul-mate from his mind. He realises his true love and that he will find sunshine no more if she is gone from him forever. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

Alongside Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet, this movie consists of marvelous co-stars as well, such as Elijah Wood (The Lord of the Rings Trilogy), Kirsten Dunst (Spider-Man2), and Mark Ruffalo (Collateral). Jim Carrey gives a spectacular performance with this charismatic, yet out-of-the-norm serious role.

The memories of those we love and cherish aid us in getting through this mundane madness we call life and that is what Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is entirely about. It relates to the unwilling death of the memories of our loved ones.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is a magnificent piece of work.
