Copy proof CD in India to combat music piracy

Well-known Hindi film director-producer Subhash Ghai, along with Virgin Records, has taken recourse to a novel technology to Subhash Ghaibattle the scourge of piracy in India. The showman will launch the music of his latest venture, JOGGERS' PARK, on May 24 on a 'copy control audio compact disk', already available abroad, which does not allow a copy to be made from the original.

Explaining the technology, Mr. Ghai said, "This is for the first time such technology has been used in India to fight piracy. The technology was developed by EMI, one among the three main music companies in the world. Copy control CDs can neither be copied in any other format nor can be taped from. Only the person who buys the CD can hear it but he cannot record from it, not even from a loudspeaker."

"This certainly is the first step in the Indian music history and Mukta Arts Limited is proud to be the first one to incorporate this technology", Mr. Ghai added. The CD cannot be downloaded or copied and this is surely going to attract many other music companies and film makers from the industry.

Initially, Mukta Arts will be releasing over a lakh copies of such CDs in the market to see the response. They may later, release the film's music on regular audio CD and cassettes. Mr. Ghai is optimistic about this new technology and says, "This is definitely a new chapter in the music industry."
