Change is a word that can be associated with this beautiful actress. With marriage she has also step outside the commercial films
block. "It's a new world for me and trust me, it's a great feeling," the words are too heavy to digest as Sonali Bendre is currently busy these days.Well! The actress is busy these days and her film ANAHAT has been a pioneer in terms of her acting.
So how did it all happen? Was Sonali the first and last choice for the role? Well! Amol Palekar the director of ANAHAT found in Sonali a mixed blend of glamour and perfection. Her beauty has an aesthetic touch to it and since her character is a classic subject with contemporary connotations, Sonali bagged the role.
Sonali doesn't play the young, bubbly good-looking girl in ANAHAT. The costume drama sees her acting as a queen who has to choose a different man to impregnate her when it turns out that the king is infertile. Sonali thus goes outside the pedestal and sleeps with a man. When she comes back, Sonali comes to know that she can sleep two times more, thus she revolts when she is stopped.
A classic example of infidelity and sexual harassment, ANAHAT speaks about the uninhibited areas of woman's cinema. Though Amol Palekar has done DAAYARA, which was based on male sexuality, this one spoke woman. Amol felt that Sonali has beautifully balanced a queen role; her expression and timing in ANAHAT is equally good.
Sonali has come a long way; From a lovebird in NAARAAZ to a sexy siren in DUPLICATE and now a queen in ANAHAT. Though she has enjoyed running dancing across the trees yet she was not destined to do so only. Sonali wanted to transform her career in a substance piece and ANAHAT surely did that. Sonali wanted ANAHAT to be made in Hindi though she is happy that the movie is made in Marathi.
Sonali still finds time in reading comics and watching Charlie Chaplin films. Well any dream role, Sonali has one: opposite to
Keanu Reeves. Hhhhhhhmm
Any regrets? Sonali has loads: as an actress making her debut in AAG (1994) Sonali has faced a lot of rejections and has the most number of flops as a newcomer. But with a face and figure like hers, she has a certain kind of oomph and aura around her that makes her so special. None of her films have given her career the required push, but Sonali Bendre has charmed millions of her admirers by flashing just a sweet smile. Thankfully with ANAHAT she can shed her image.
With her reticence, reserve and accentuated coyness, Sonali has displayed how the end-millennium woman can be traditional too: a perfect counterfoil to the aggressive, all-west Indian woman. With charm and good-natured humor, Sonali Bendre commands affection from friends and strangers alike. Well Sonali gets a thumb up from my part, perhaps the phrase goes perfect for her, "Tum Jiyo Hazaaro Saal, Saal Ke Din Ho Hazaar."
