Mallika Sherawat's hyped role opposite Jackie Chan in The Myth turned out to be a paltry eight-minute cameo, but that's not the only way the film lives up to its name.
Mid Day has learnt that the actress used a body double for one of the racier action scenes. And in another scene, which purportedly shows sexy Sherawat topless for an instant, she is in fact wearing flesh-coloured tights.
"A body double - a gymnast and martial arts expert from China - was hired to do Mallika's action sequence as it required a lot of flexibility," said Sudhanshu Pandey, who plays a negative role, the leader of a group of guards in India.
The Myth is scheduled for release in India this December, and promotional clips will be on air from next week.
However, Stanley Chong, the film's director, denied that the actress had used a body double. He said, "Mallika performed the scenes herself, but yes, she did use skin-coloured tights for one of the shots."
Sources said that Chong had originally offered the role to a number of Bollywood actresses, who turned it down because of the strip scene. He then approached Mallika, who said she had no problem doing it.
Meanwhile, Sanjeev Mehta of United Television, which will distribute the film in India, said, "I have just received the publicity brochures and the Chinese version of the film. I haven't watched it yet, so Mallika would be the right person to speak about it."
Mid Day has acquired a VCD copy of the film, which includes a comic action sequence between Jackie Chan and Sudanshu Pandey (Band of Boys). Mallika pops in during the fight to protect Jackie.
The two roll around on a huge platter covered with glue. Jackie yanks Mallika upwards, but as her choli is stuck to the platter, she ends up topless. True to form, Jackie whips off his t-shirt in a flash and covers Mallika with it in an instant.
Mallika was not available for comment. Sources said she was out of the country.
