If you are a movie buff, then you must have watched Vijay Anand's classic, 'Guide' starring the debonair Dev Anand and Waheeda Rehman. The film was based on littérateur-novelist-scholar R K Narayan's best-seller novel 'Guide'. Want to watch it again? Yes, you have watched it hundred times already but now fasten your belts to see the latest version of the movie.
Well, this is a rework of this classic. And wait…this is also going to arrest your breath for some other reason and that is the star cast of the film, which includes the Bollywood dashing macho man Akshay Kumar with the marvelous heart-hitting beauty Vidya Balan. Pritish Nandy will be on the producer's chair with his banner PNC Films, while the mastermind director Rituparno Ghosh will be directing the flick. Titled 'Rahgir' (traveler), the movie will have Akshay playing the role of the traveler (Dev Anand's role) while Vidya Balan will play Rosie.
Since Akshay is considered to be a true fit for commercial movies, Nandy uttered about choosing the lead man for the film, "In my view, Akshay is an extremely fine actor who has traditionally been cast in roles where he had little opportunity to showcase his versatile acting skills. He has always been cast in typical Bollywood films, where his ability to showcase his talent has been limited. If he does Rahgir, it will be wonderful to see him in a film that gives him the opportunity to demonstrate his histrionic talents."
"We are working on the details. If everything works out well, Akshay and Vidya will be in Rahgir, where Akshay will play the traveler. The film will start in the next few months, so it is ready for release in the third quarter of the year. We have some clear targets. We want Rahgir to be shown at some of the biggest festivals before releasing it in India," Nandy added.
"I find a great intensity in Akshay. He is natural, athletic and well-built. In spite of being a superstar, he possesses the quality of being a real hero. I haven't met him too many times, but when I narrated the role to him, he felt excited enough to take time out from his hectic schedule to give me the dates for my film. His colleagues too praise him highly. In Akshay, I find a transparency and an eagerness to learn," the luminous director Rituparno Ghosh said.
